NIPSTA’s Fire Department Incident Safety Officer program is designed to exceed the requirements outlined by the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal “OSFM”, and provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to perform as an incident safety officer (ISO), as defined by NFPA 1521.
OSFM Exam: In order to be eligible to take the state exam at the end of this course, students need to be registered no less than 35 days prior to the last day of the program. Visit our OSFM FAQ page for more information.

This completely redesigned program combines online learning, classroom discussion, critical thinking exercises, and hands-on activities. Students will perform Incident Safety Officer tasks during live training exercises.

In order to participate in the online learning portion of this program, and obtain the necessary information to challenge the OSFM test - students must purchase a textbook and set up a Navigate2 account.
