Hazardous Materials -Technician B

The NIPSTA program is a hands-on, practical-oriented course in which students will operate in Level A suits during a variety of simulated hazardous materials incidents.

 

Participants will understand self-protection measures and rescue and evacuation procedures for WMD and hazardous materials incidents. Students will practice the five-step (identify, notify, isolate, mitigate, and terminate) model for response. Practice in detecting and monitoring liquids, vapors, and radiation, as well as the proper handling of their releases will take place while utilizing specialized detection and communication equipment. Advanced offensive skills, development of incident action plans, and the making of strategic and tactical decisions will be performed while participating in scenarios.

 

Student Equipment Requirements:

Full turnout gear that is NFPA compliant. Other required equipment includes SCBA harness, a fit-tested face piece, two (2) SCBA cylinders, a small towel, and water bottle.

 

Program Prerequisites:

Hazardous Materials-Operations Level & Hazardous Materials-Technician A


REQUEST FOR REGISTRATION APPLICATION PROCESS

    Priority is provided to Requests for Registration received from those who are included on a training roster of an  Illinois MABAS Special Operations Team that is located within Cook County.  No student substitutions/replacements allowed once roster has been approved by MABAS.

All other Requests for Registration will be considered for acceptance on a space-available basis, depending upon the maximum capacity (25) of this training program.

Notice of acceptance (or denial/being wait listed) of a Request for Registration will be provided by NIPSTA approximately thirty (30) days in advance of the scheduled training program.

Registration Deadline:  All Requests for Registration must be received by NIPSTA at least six (6) weeks prior to the first day of the training program.  Requests received after the deadline will not receive consideration for acceptance, except on a space-available basis.

 Cancellation Policy Notice of cancellation of an accepted Request for Registration must be received by NIPSTA at least two (2) weeks prior to the first day of the scheduled training program.  Substitute requests will not be accepted.

If notice of cancellation is received by NIPSTA less than two (2) weeks prior to the first day of the scheduled training program, then 50% of the tuition fee ($625) shall be due and payable to NIPSTA.  Substitute requests will not be accepted. Please email cancellations to ksullivan@nipsta.org. 

If notice of cancellation is not received by NIPSTA before the first day of the scheduled training program, then 100% of the tuition fee ($625) shall be due and payable to NIPSTA regardless of the fee being waived or not.

NIPSTA reserves the right to cancel a course.  Notice of cancellation will be provided to students at least seven (7) days prior to the first day of the program.  Cancellations with less than seven (7) days" notice will only be in the event of an emergency.
