Operations Section Chief Program (All-Hazards Position-Specific Training)
September 24-27, 2012

A collaborative partnership between the Cook County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Management and NIPSTA results in the delivery of this NIMS/ICS programming for public safety, public health, and other emergency response professionals.

About All-Hazards Position-Specific Training

The purpose of this training is to provide a portion of the training that may be needed to establish Type III & IV Incident Management Teams (IMTs).  This training is designed to provide all-hazard competencies and behaviors for the eight Command and General Staff and selected Unit Leader positions within the NIMS ICS and specifically within the IMT environment. Competencies within the individual courses of instruction that comprise this training are focused around the ability of the student to assume specific position responsibilities, lead assigned personnel, communicate effectively, and to ensure the completion of assigned task to meet identified objectives for the position(s).

Operations Section Chief Program

This four-day course is designed to provide emergency responders with an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, and capabilities of an effective Operations Section Chief (OSC) on an All-Hazards Incident Management Team (AHIMT).  These responsibilities fall into two categories: 1. Response to the incident and command needs of the incident, and 2. effectively fulfilling the position responsibilities of an Incident Commander on an AHIMT.  Exercises, simulations, discussions, and a final exam enable students to process and apply their new knowledge.

· Describe the purpose of the Strategy, Tactics, and Planning meetings and the Operations Section Chief’s role and responsibilities in developing the Operational Planning Worksheet (ICS Form 215) and the Incident Action Plan.
