Its Almost
Driver Training Season
NIPSTA offers a two-day driver training curriculum and a one-day re-certification program that provide for the safety of department personnel, and the residents they serve. This instruction is intended to enhance driving skills by combining classroom education with practical exercises. Program success is measured on a pass/fail basis and requires student proficiency on a written exam and in simulations on the NIPSTA Driver Training Pad.

Numerous
training dates are scheduled throughout the year in order to provide as many opportunities as possible for improvement of on-the-job performance. Driving activities are performed in a safe environment and at controlled speeds. Departments that participate in this comprehensive, proactive program will reduce their accident rates and liabilities.

A Shocking Experience
Back by popular demand, NIPSTA hosts an Electrical Safety Training and Demonstration program on March 13, 2012. This event is an annual sell-out, as public works and fire department personnel witness the live activation of 7,200 volts. The workshop educates participants about the dangers involved in emergency response to the electrical distribution system. Instructors present information about hazards and precautions, rules and regulations, and practical measures to be employed by public safety professionals. Register now for this “hot” program.
Driver Simulation Training for Public Works Personnel
NIPSTA presents this interactive training program to help ensure that public works vehicle operators use proper driving skills, which, in turn, reduces the frequency and severity of vehicle-related accidents. Real-life experiences are available on state-of-the-art driving simulators, providing participants with training that cannot be replicated on the road.
This one-day program is complemented by classroom presentations that enable drivers to practice multiple high-risk tasks, such as operating in severe weather conditions, maneuvering through traffic, and managing dangerous intersections.

Improve On-The-Job Performance in Your Community
NIPSTA announces a series of training programs for all municipal employees, including those who do not serve in public safety positions. These sessions have been designed to attract a large audience of local government personnel. The training topics are an acknowledgement of the unique demands placed upon public servants and the variety of tasks that they are called upon to perform.
