This course provides the student with an in-depth understanding of the most likely medical scenarios causing first responder and firefighter injury during a rapid intervention scenario. Instruction includes both didactic and practical sessions with a combination of live patients and high-fidelity simulation in a fire service environment.
This course may be conducted via the NIPSTA Mobile Training Program. Mutual aid departments are encouraged to train together.
Topics include:
The swift removal of turnout gear and SCBA without the interruption of CPR compressions.
Recognizing situations requiring quick patient transport vs. those where on-scene medical intervention is most beneficial.
Review of efficient patient movement techniques.
Medical treatment strategies for the most common cause of adverse medical events on an active fire scene.
