Policies
Participant Responsibilities
Participants are responsibly for ensuring a safe training and learning environment for themselves and their fellow Participants while participating in NIPSTA Programming. Participants are required to seek clarification from instructors whenever they are unsure about a specific skill, strategy or performance measure. Participants are not required to attempt or complete an skill which they do not fully comprehend or with which they have any concern or apprehension. Participants are responsible for the decontamination of their personal protective equipment/turnout gear/SCBAs along with other efforts to physically clean their clothing, hair or skin following training.
Pre-Requisites
Participants are responsible for ensuring that they individually meet the pre-requisites for all courses prior to registration. Pre-requisites are listed on the course description in the NIPSTA website (where applicable).
Invoice Payment Requirements-Government Agencies
Tuition payments are optimally due in full prior to the first day of the program. If tuition payment is not received within seven (7) days following the last day of the course, a hold will automatically be placed on a municipality’s account until payment is received in full.
It is recognized that some municipal government departments require their members to pay their out tuition and then received internal reimbursement upon success program completion. In this case, participants are required to pay their tuition in full at the time of registration.
Invoice Payment-Private Sector/Non-Member Agencies
Participants representing private sector/non-member agencies are required to pay their tuition in full at the time of registration.
Use of Credit Cards
Tuition payments by credit card are encouraged. A service fee (2.5% of base amount with $2.00 minimum) will be assessed for each credit card payment and is the credit card holder’s responsibility.
Cancellations and Refunds
Registrations may be cancelled up to fourteen(14) days prior to the first day of a course without financial penalty. Participants or Training officers requesting registration cancellation must submit their request in writing according to information provided for the specific class on the website. No verbal requests for cancellations will be accepted.
Full refunds will be issued for cancellation requests received prior to fourteen(14) days before the first day for a course. A seventy-five percent(75%) refund will be issued for cancellations received between thirteen (13) and eight(8) days before the first day of a course. A fifty percent (50%) refund will be issued for cancellations received within seven(7) and one (1) day before the first day of a course. Petitions to waive the cancellation fee should be directed to the Executive Director or their designee.
Students who cancel their enrollment due to illness will be required to submit their cancellation request in writing along with a written statement from their Training Officer or supervisor. Such communication must be submitted by the TO/supervisor directly to NIPSTA in order for a cancellation without financial penalty to be considered. A $20 processing fee will be applied.
Participants who not cancel their registration and do not attend a course will be held responsible for the full cost of the tuition. Special situations will be considered by the Executive Director.
