Heavy Vehicle Rescue(40 hours)

NIPSTA’s Heavy Vehicle Rescue program is designed to exceed the requirements outlined by the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal “OSFM”, and provides students with the basic knowledge and skills needed to perform vehicle and machinery rescue at the NFPA 1670 & 1006 Operations level. Students will leave prepared to operate as a member of a regional team capable of responding to statewide emergencies involving CBRNE or WMD, where advanced vehicle and machinery rescue may be needed.

NEW BLENDED FORMAT

Phase 1 (8 hours):

• One (1) online orientation session. Attendance at this orientation is mandatory.
• Independent online/textbook education completed over five (5) consecutive days.

Phase 2 (32 hours):
 Thirty-two (32) hours of in-person, hands-on training and exercises completed over four (4) consecutive days (Tuesday–Friday).

  • Phase 1 April 20 - 24, 2026 (8 hrs online / textbook) 

  • Phase 2 April 28 - May 1, 2026 (32 hrs on campus)

• October 12 - 23, 2026

  • Phase 1 October 12 - 16, 2026 (8 hrs online / textbook)

  • Phase 2 October 20 - 23, 2026 (32 hrs on campus)
